MAGIS
Organised by: Sigma Contemporary DancePerformed by: Sigma Contemporary Dance, Sigma Faculty & Associate Artists, Sigma Youth Wing, and Sigma Collective Space Community Dancers
Synopsis:
Fifteen years after it began, Sigma Contemporary Dance presents MAGIS, its first full-length recital. Bringing together its Community Dancers, Youth Wing, Company Dancers, Faculty and Associate Artists, the production returns to the heart of Sigma: a reminder to continue making time for what we love, to honour the discipline of a shared practice, and the art of coming together through dance.
Derived from the Latin word meaning "more," "greater," or "beyond," MAGIS explores the collective energy that emerges when bodies gather, move, and create together.
The programme presents a collection of original choreographic works by Sigma's artistic team, performed by a diverse cast whose lives extend far beyond the studio. Featuring over 50 dancers aged 20 to 56, MAGIS brings together one of the largest casts ever assembled for a contemporary dance production in Singapore. Together, they bring different experiences, perspectives, and stories to the stage – professional artists, students, working professionals, parents, teachers, and dancers from all walks of life, each bringing their own histories, perspectives, and presence to the work.
