Synopsis:

T:>Works introduces the Living Soil Series as part of CoThink Lab, kicking off with a double-bill film screening: Sandcastles (2024) by Carin Leong and Moving Earth (2024) by Ian Mun.

What do we consider as home? The constructed complex we live in? The land where we make our livelihood?

'Sandcastles' (2024) by Carin Leong draws parallels between a lost 19th-century Michigan town swallowed by sand and modern Singapore, built on reclaimed land, highlighting the ephemeral nature of human creations. 'Moving Earth' (2024) by Ian Mun is a nostalgic look at the Ground-Up Initiative in Singapore as they relocate, celebrating their connection to the earth and its importance of soil in our lives.

We invite the audience to participate in a pre-show activity to pen down stories of relocation and land reclamation. There will also be a post-film panel discussion featuring 'Sandcastles' producer Martin Loh, 'Moving Earth' director Ian Mun, and Bing Yu from Ground-Up Initiative (GUI) — a non-profit society dedicated to fostering sustainable kampung culture through active community participation.
