Synopsis:

"Who am I?' is a question that we often seek an answer to, while trying to understand the world around us and the chaos it brings to the world within ourselves.

Exploring this inner truth requires us to peel layers of ourselves, dig deeper into our thoughts to understand what they seek and what they represent. It requires us to reflect on our journey through life, death and time in a quest to realise the universal power and truth that exists within us.

Kasi – Dance of Infinity reflects on Kasi not only as the holy city, but more importantly personifies her as the cosmic space. She is the centre of our universe, reflective abode of the Supreme, and the light that reflects the circular construct of time in our lives. In reflecting the myriad forms of Kasi, this bharatanatyam show will highlight Kasi as an embodiment of strength, joy, and time that reside in the universe within us. This will be executed through the use of a range of compositions, melodies, dialogue and unique choreography in its acts to decipher the different forms of Kasi.

This new work is developed from the Dance India Asia Pacific mentorship with Rama Vaidyanathan and music composed by Sudha Raghuraman.

Kalpavriksha Fine Arts (Limited) (KFA), a non-profit arts organisation was incorporated in 2016 by three young local dancers: Meera Balasubramanian, Sruti Rao and Shruthi Ramesh. These three dancers have undergone their bharatanatyam training in India and Singapore and started this initiative with the aspiration of bringing the youth's perspective to the Indian dance scene in Singapore. KFA branches out through performances, productions, teaching, dialogue and social engagement, expressing the positive aesthetics of the art form to the community at large.
