"The COVID-19 Cycle" brings together three new bodies of work made in response to the COVID-19 pandemic: A series of drawings which gives the online exhibition its name, a series of cut canvases titled "Silent Treatment", and an album of ambient soundscapes and other sonic curiosities titled "Bach Groan Static Sticks (the album formally known as 'Background Statistics')".

Bjorn Lee Varella (b. 1994) is a Singaporean fine artist, curator, performance maker, writer and arts administrator. He studied Art History and Visual Arts at Columbia University on an NAC Undergraduate Arts Scholarship and graduated Summa Cum Laude. His artistic practice is rooted in raw autobiography, poetic symbolism and quiet intimacy, and his performance creations waver uneasily in the crosshairs of experimental theatre, performance art and postmodern dance. As a visual artist, he works across photography, drawing, printmaking and sculpture. Thematic preoccupations include queer and religious identity, cultural dislocation and ambivalent nationhood. He has worked and interned with arts organisations including The Wooster Group, New York City Players, Performa, American Realness and the National Arts Council of Singapore. Performance credits include Incarnation of the Beast (TheatreWorks), Running with Strippers (Cake Theatrical Productions) and No Man's Land (OH! Open House).
