Almost 55 is a full-length autobiographical solo created by award-winning Taiwanese choreographer Chou Shu-yi for Qiao Yang, one of Hong Kong's most distinguished dance artists and a pioneer contemporary dancer from China. Interspersing physically challenging dance solos with monologues, Qiao Yang shares her ongoing journey in dance as she reflects on her purpose in life at her age of 50s. Through the ebb and flow of Qiao's movements, this intimate work imprints her years of unwavering dedication to dance, and spotlights the power that comes from daily discipline and ordinariness.

Crystallised after a 400-day creative and research journey, this production traces Qiao's dance career, from performing traditional Chinese dance in her home town in Shaanxi in the early 1970s, to studying contemporary dance in Guangzhou in the 1980s, and moving to Hong Kong in the 1990s, and explores notions of identity and home.

Featuring a stellar creative team with lighting designer Lee Chi-wai, video designer Maurice Lai, composer Steve Hui and costume consultant Lin Ching-ju – its premiere in Hong Kong in January 2019 received critical acclaim.
