Synopsis:

Revealing a fragment of the lesser-known 'culture tribe' from the underbelly of our island state, Atypical Singapore presents the art of emerging contemporary Singaporean artists. Translated with raw, poetic sincerity and intimate reflection through sculptures, animations, performance art, and moving images, encounter a fragment of Singapore seldom seen or spoken about.

The seven artists were handpicked by Khairuddin Hori, Curatorial Director and Partner of Chan+Hori, based on their respective areas of specialisation. The artists–Daniel Yu, Gerald Leow, Speak Cryptic (Farizwan Fajari), Amanda Tan, Eugene Soh, anGie seah and Muhammad Izdi–will display artworks and engage in performances inspired by Singaporean elements, such as the five stars on the national flag, traditional icons and local subcultures. Their works are brought to life by AR technology developed by art and technology studio MeshMinds and AR artist Eugene Soh.

This is a homecoming exhibition for the showcase, which is part of Singapore Tourism Board's global Passion Made Possible campaign. The campaign is an ongoing effort in presenting what Singapore has to offer to the world, by profiling and supporting local talent. Atypical Singapore debuted in 2018 and has since travelled to countries such as Russia, India, Myanmar and Bangkok.
