"Beauty Queens of Bishan" explores the lives of stereotypical rich Indian families that intertwine around the beauty salons in Bishan, one of the heartlands in culturally diverse Singapore. When the owner of a swanky new salon, April Chua, threatens to take over the neighbourhood, it is up to Gurpreet Kaur, the owner of Monty Beauty Spa, to stop her.
A journalist at The Straits Times since 2007, Akshita has lived in Singapore since 1995. Her columns are well received by readers. She has a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS).
