Synopsis:

This grand gala evening promises an exciting programme of excerpts of grand opera and vocal works in the theme of the homeland to commemorate Singapore's 200th year of founding with a star-studded cast of local and international operatic soloists.

Singapore baritone Martin Ng recently returned from successes in the role of Scarpia in Tosca and Germont in La Traviata in Taiwan and Malaysia will perform for the concert excerpts from the aforementioned operas. Teng Xiang Ting, rising local soprano and a familiar face in the Singapore operatic scene, debuted in 2019 in the Theatres of Biel and Solothurn in Switzerland.

International opera singers will make their debut in this gala event: Serbian soprano Ana Petricevic sings regularly in opera houses all over Europe in roles in Maddelana (Andrea Chenier) , Leonora (Il Trovatore), Desdemona (Otello) and the title role of Turandot.

Turkish mezzo soprano Asude Karayavuz, former singer of the Accademia della Scala, guests in major opera houses like the Arena and Teatro San Carlo of Naples in operas like Carmen and Rigoletto, to name a few.

The evening's programme will be accompanied by the Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra led by renown conductor Tsung Yeh, and Aloysius Fong on the piano. The soloists will take us through a musical journey of longing, desire and love for the motherland, with popular operatic tunes like O Patria Mia, Cruda Sorte, Di Provenza, Ich möcht wieder einmal die Heimat seh'n, Mes Amis!, along with nostalgic vocal works. To end off, we have accompanying the soloists, the world ranked first NUSChoir, led by Professor Nelson Kwei.
