Ethnic Mix: Reflecting Singapore's rich musical diversity
Kallang Community Club's upcoming ArtsBites performance - Ethnic Mix - will feature Open Score Project, an ensemble made up of musicians from different cultural backgrounds and musical influences.
Reflecting unique soundscape that reflects Singapore's rich diversity, this performance is a manifest of a kaleidoscope of sounds inspired by the coming together of musicians from various musical cultures and experiences. In its interwoven melodies and rhythms is the symbolic gesture of friendship, knitted through each musician's exuberant passion and grit for their mutual love of music.
The Open Score Project is a syncretic music ensemble founded by Syafiqah 'Adha Sallehin and Gildon Choo in 2018, comprising of musicians from different cultural backgrounds and musical influences where they aim to frontier a new sound that reflects Singapore's identity and cultural diversity.
The ensemble draws inspiration upon the different cultural traditions of Singapore for its original works and arrangements. The soundscape of the ensemble encompasses a variety of color from different ethnic instruments, such as the Morin Khuur, Pipa, Tabla, Accordion, Cello, Venu amongst others. This approach results in a unique soundscape which interlinks the rich cultural diversity in Singapore through artistic exchanges and collaboration among the musicians.
