Synopsis:
Singapore Writers Festival 2018 (SWF) celebrates the world's leading writers and thinkers with a series of programmes centred around this year's theme, 界 (jiè), which alludes to the different world(s) we live in. Organised by the National Arts Council at the Civic District, SWF seeks to inspire audiences to reflect on what it means to be a citizen of the world by delving into a broad spectrum of topics including immigration, multi-culturalism, climate change, and the imagination of endless boundaries through augmented and virtual realities.
As one of the world's few truly multi-lingual and multi-cultural literary festivals, the 10-day Festival will excite communities through its diverse range of programmes, including panel discussions, workshops, lectures, performances, author dialogues and film screenings. Festival-goers can look forward to a rich line-up of Singaporean and international writers such as Irvine Welsh, Kiran Desai, David Sedaris, Edwin Thumboo, John Yau, Cathy Song, Jeff Goodell, Simon Armitage, Judith Beveridge, Anne Lee Tzu Pheng, Yeng Pway Ngon, Xia Jia, Miriam Meckel, Ra Chezhiyan, Intan Paramaditha and many more. In line with the multi-cultural aspect, this year's Country Focus is Germany, known for its rich literary legacy and cultural diversity.
