Synopsis:

This will be a 12-session workshop, targeting the following areas:

1) Development of self-awareness as an actor

- Participants will be led through mapping exercises and discussions, so as to better understand their own needs and preferences as actors

- They will also be introduced to Liz Lerman's Critical Response Process as an approach to give and receive useful feedback on work

2) Introduction to different 'languages' for thinking and talking about what is happening on stage

- Participants will delve briefly into Viewpoints, as conceptualized by Mary Overlie, Anne Bogart's practice of Viewpoints, and the trainer's own explorations with Vocal Viewpoints

3) Development of movement vocabularies

- Various strategies of developing movement scores independently of text will be introduced, as well as different strategies of placing movement and text scores next to each other

Attendance for all sessions is compulsory. However, those who are unable to commit to the full 12 sessions can choose to attend the first 6 sessions only.

Trainer:
A freelance theatre practitioner, Gua Khee Chong graduated from the University of British Columbia, Canada, with a Psychology (Honours) and Theatre (Major) degree. While in Canada, she trained in Theatre for Living with David Diamond, as well as created Changing the Lens: A UBC Forum Theatre Project.

After graduation, she worked at Drama Box until 2016. Now, as a freelancer, recent theatre-related credits include: The Lesson (school tour) by Drama Box (facilitator); HOT POT TALK: Theatre & the Arts (director and producer); Offending the Audience by Emergency Stairs (surtitlist with live translation); An Un-Tea Party with Bernice Lee and Tan Wei Ting, as an independent (artistic director and cast-facilitator); Tales, To and Fro with Eng Kai Er, as an independent (co-devisor); and Red Sky by Nine Years Theatre (assistant to the director).

Gua Khee's practice is situated in exploring how different worlds encounter each other, either in the final piece with/amongst audience as in HOT POT TALK: Theatre & the Arts, or in the process with artists of different disciplines, such as An Un-Tea Party.

Some current projects include being on the creative team for Drama Box's Both Sides Now: The Art of Dying (working title), collaborating with dancer-choreographer Bernice Lee as part of Dance Nucleus' Associate Membership programme, as well as co-convening a Somatics working group.
