P Krishnan’s Adukku Veetu Annasamy 3Organised by: Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay
Performed by: Ravindran Drama Group
The Annasamy family and their neighbours are back to entertain you with their hilarious adventures in the last instalment of Ravindran Drama Group's Adukku Veetu Annasamy. The story picks up after the lovers Rajendran (Annasamy and Kokilavani's son) and Prema (Panchatcharam and Gunasundari's daughter) have separated.
Gunasundari forces the family to go to India to find Prema a groom.
The glutton Panchanadham (Kokilavani's brother), who had been tricked into going back to Kota Bahru with a false telegram from his brother-in-law Annasamy and long-suffering neighbour Arokiasamy in Adukku Veetu Annasamy 1, returns to Singapore, much to Annasamy's dismay.
Will Prema marry Rajendran or accept an arranged marriage? Will Annasamy and Arokiasamy finally get rid of Panchanadham, or will Kokilavani succeed in making her brother their new neighbour? And will the conflict between Gunasundari and Shantammal ever end? All your burning questions will be answered in this final chapter of the trilogy.
Created by Cultural Medallion recipient P Krishnan, Adukku Veetu Annasamy was a radio play that was first broadcast over Singapore radio in 1969. The hit comedy captures the lives of Singaporeans in the late '60s following their relocation from kampongs to HDB estates. It broadly examines social issues including civic-mindedness, relationships with neighbours, road-crossing etiquette and National Service.
A commission by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay as part of its Raga series of programmes.
