Synopsis:

Literature is a powerful teaching tool. The characters children and young people meet in the pages of a book can have a profound influence on them and help them realise character strengths such as respect, honesty, courage, and kindness are real and interesting aspects of the world around them. The world of literature has much in common with the emerging field of positive psychology, which explores the strengths and virtues that enable people to thrive. This workshop combines elements of literature and positive psychology to explore the character strength of hope through a multimedia lens of text, video and music. Teaching strategies include the use of thinking routines and active hands-on activities, which are practical and can be adapted to any curriculum.
