Synopsis:

In this two day workshop, UK Copyright and Rights Consultant Lynette Owen will cover key aspects of copyright and licensing in the publishing world including the role of copyright as the framework for rights trading and the importance of the author-publisher contract.

She will cover the rationale for buying rights, sources of information on potential titles, making contact with rightsholders and the practicalities of negotiating terms and finalising a contract for the purchase of rights.

She will also teach about promotion and sale of rights, whether the titles originate in Singapore or are represented by the Singapore office, covering what resources are needed to provide the service and practical advice on finding suitable licensees and negotiating terms. The importance of book fairs is stressed throughout.
