Synopsis:

Join Sean Cham in conversation at BooksActually as he discusses what goes on behind creating his latest documentary book - Yesteryears - on the lost sights in Singapore.

About the book:
Inspired by the recent tearing down of buildings and ongoing en blocs for future developments, Yesteryears was developed in a collection of images to document and commemorate the forgotten ruins created by the ever-changing Singapore.

Yesteryears captures 50 abandoned and forgotten buildings in Singapore through a series of in situ self-portraits. The buildings photographed are in different states of ruination, from the crumbling roofs of Istana Woodneuk to the soon-to-be demolished Rochor Centre. These buildings represent the modern ruins of post independence Singapore, an era that lives not only with progress but also the fleeting ruins left in its wake.

About the author:
Sean Cham (b. 1994, Singapore) dabbles in different mediums and art forms – including photography, theatre, visual art and graphic design. He is a current undergraduate at Yale-NUS College, with an Urban Studies major and an Arts and Humanities minor.

Intrigued by stories and memories, in relation to the urban environment, his works have always aimed to capture the theatre of life. His works were exhibited in a group exhibition Unseen/Unknown at DECK (Singapore), and at various iterations of NOISE Singapore. As an amateur theatre practitioner, Sean has recently directed Michael Chiang's Private Parts with (aside), a repertory theatre company he founded in college.
