Synopsis:

Gemuk: Dah Makan? Have You Eaten? is a story about a girl named Hayati, who is overweight. Plagued by the ridicule she faces from her classmates and people around her because of her size, she grows up to see the world through a tainted lense. This story captures the conflicts of Hayati, as she comes to terms with a society filled with superficial standards that lack compassion. Hayati explains the truth behind the struggle to accept her own body. One day in her journey she finds a story about a thousand cranes. She holds onto that story in hopes her wish will come true. Little does she know the story of the cranes would end differently.

This original production is directed and produced by current students and alumni from arts training centre 10 Square @ Orchard Central. From passionate youths aged 15 to 24, they have taken the time out of their full time jobs and school to come together to uphold their yearly tradition of producing an alumni show.

This youth-initiated production will raise funds in support of The Business Times Budding Artists Fund to nurture the artistic ambitions of children and youth from financially disadvantaged families.
