2017 Traditional Arts Taster Programme for Pre-schools - Badang, The Strong Man
Organised by: National Arts Council and ACT 3 InternationalPerformed by: Era Dance Theatre
Synopsis:
In line with the Traditional Arts Plan to develop a broad-based audience and foster an environment appreciative of traditional arts through active engagement of younger audiences, National Arts Council has developed a high-quality taster programme introducing Singapore's traditional art forms to young children aged four to six years old. This is part of the Council's strategy to create quality, age-appropriate programmes that offer early exposure to diverse traditional art forms, to seed interest in traditional arts from a young age.
Following the success of the pilot programme last year, the Traditional Arts Taster Programme for Pre-schools is restaged this year with new and improved stories. Three stories drawn from Chinese, Malay and Indian legends are presented, with the Malay legend – Badang, The Strong Man showing from 10 – 18 July. It is a collaborative effort with Era Dance Theatre and ACT 3 International, which has extensive experience in curating workshops and drama programmes for young children.
The programme is carried out in the form of a learning journey, where students would experience a 30-min theatrical performance followed by a workshop session.
