Synopsis:

Conceptualised by Visual Arts Artists, Esther Ng, Francis Poon, Noc Vvyne Lim and Fish Jaafar as part of Tampines GRC PAssionArts Festival 2017.

Faces and cultural icons symbolising the various ethnic groups will be carved on wooden logs which will be displayed as "totems". Traditionally, totems are used as an identity for a tribe to band together and form strong bonds. Similarly, we want to unite the diverse cultural backgrounds of Singaporeans and create a single, powerful totemic identity which we can all be a part of.

The use of logs provided by Tampines Town Council also helps to spread the message of conservation, and encourage the practice of recycling materials.

The May edition would be the most challenging as we welcome 1000 over pre-school kids *save us!* as well as their parents as they tryout wood carving and painting for the Totem project. Everyone is welcomed to add your co-creation as an lead up to the annual community arts festival in Singapore organised by the People's Association Community Art and Culture Division!
