From Modern to Contemporary Art
Organised by: Corcovado ArtsPerformed by: Professor Ruben de la Nuez
Synopsis:
This short series examines pivotal moments that changed the history of Western Art. Starting with the Impressionists in the 1860's whose free-spirited experimentation created new styles and techniques, the series then discusses the Post-Impressionists who took these breakthroughs further, using colour and line to express emotion and inner feelings; their endeavours paved the way for the Avant-Garde. The third encounter will pick up on these foundations and explain the contradictions between two distinctive paradigms within early 20th century Western Art: Modernism and the Avant-Garde, while the last session will address Conceptual Art, the most radical Western Art Movement of the second half of the 20th century.
