Synopsis:
Evoking the sights, sounds, and scents of a thriving cosmopolitan city into his works, Tam Kwan Yuen seeks to depict the aesthetic and emotional through his new series of watercolour paintings in Urban Sense.
Tam is fascinated by the interactions of people and their surroundings. Scenes portrayed include a myriad of glitzy lights along Boat Quay where crowds gather to wind down after work, a musical evening by Marina Bay set against the mesmerising skyline of Singapore's central business district, and a voguish woman gliding through a historical monument. Tam has accentuated the vibrancy and vitality of Singapore in his vivid watercolour works.
Tam Kwan Yuen (b. 1986, Hong Kong) has been regularly included in international juried shows and won several awards such as the Jan Gary and William D. Gorman Memorial Award from the 149th Annual International Exhibition of the American Watercolor Society (2016) and participated in numerous exhibitions such as the Shenzhen International Watercolor Biennial (2015). Tam is a member of the Singapore Watercolour Society and the Pennsylvania Watercolour Society.
