Synopsis:

Rapid developments in military technology during World War Two have filtered into everyday life, between then and now. This same technology underlies the story of the internet, social media and smart phones. Based on original research by Associate Professor John W.P. Philips (NUS), this lecture will look at how technology has helped transform Singapore and the world as we perceive it today.

About the Speaker
John W.P. Philips teaches at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He has written about art, literature, philosophy, science and technology. He has published extensively on the connections between modern art and military technology, and is currently completing a book on the symbolism of dawn, which follows variations on the theme of the rising sun in philosophy, literature, art and music.
