We are looking to cast actors for the following roles below.

1. SECONDARY THE MUSICAL by weish, directed by Huzir Sulaiman

In this musical, weish combines true stories from the teaching service with a unique songwriting style that is at once ancient and contemporary, haunting yet playful. Spanning the naturalistic and the absurd, these hilarious and heartbreaking stories expose the day-to-day lives of real people – both teachers and students – as well as explore the truths underlying our education system.

(1A) L., Literature teacher, in her late 20s to early 30s. Passionate teacher a few years into service. Earnest but flawed. Code-switches easily. Must be able to sing and be very comfortable speaking colloquially.

(1B) C., Math teacher, in his 30s to 40s. A funny guy and a true friend. Has learned to draw boundaries in order to survive as a teacher. Must be able to sing and be very comfortable speaking colloquially.

(1C) M., Humanities HOD, in her late 30s to 60s. A leader whose hands are tied by an unyielding system. Must be able to sing.

(1D) MING, Chinese, Secondary 3 student. Hyper intelligent ah lian. Misfit. Intimidating but with a tender side, with a challenging family situation. Must be able to sing and be very comfortable speaking colloquially.

(1E) OMAR, Malay, Secondary 3 student. Boisterous, endlessly creative class clown with a challenging family situation. Must be able to rap and sing and be very comfortable speaking colloquially.

(1F) REYANSH, Indian, Secondary 3 student. Goody-two-shoes, sincere to a fault. Loves maths. Fiercely loyal to his friends. Must be able to sing.

(1G) ENSEMBLE, age, gender, and ethnicity open – Five performers needed to play student, teacher and staff roles. The Ensemble morphs into multiple roles throughout the musical and are the spine of the show. Must be able to sing and dance.

[Note that all auditionees for characters 1A - 1F will automatically also be considered for the ENSEMBLE.]

2. PLAYING WITH FIRE by Cheyenne Alexandria Phillips, directed by Claire Wong

This play follows a spirited young theatre-maker as she interviews employees in the Oil and Gas industry. As she delves deeper into their personal stories, she is called to confront her own family history intertwined with Singapore's dependence on oil.

(2A) INTERVIEWER, in her mid to late 20s, Eurasian. Youthful, spirited, naive theatre-maker. Has never worked in the Oil and Gas Industry.

(2B) RETIRED MANAGER, in her 60s. Grew up English-educated in the 1970s. Very proud of her career and her accomplishments. Retired but still loyal to the Oil and Gas Industry. Any ethnicity.

(2C) TECHNICIAN, working on the ground, in his 50s. Loving husband and father to three, with a diploma-level education. Warm, compassionate and endearing. Any ethnicity.

(2D) PROCESS ENGINEER, a newbie to the industry, in her mid to late 20s. Was in university with INTERVIEWER. Ambitious, idealistic and determined; looking to climb the corporate ladder. Any ethnicity.

(2E) MID-CAREER PROFESSIONAL, in his late 30s or early 40s, of Indian descent. Proud individual. Can be defensive of his position, and often takes his frustration out on new technology.
