Synopsis:

Tougei 2022 is a group pottery exhibition led by Master Potters Lim Kim Hui and Shee Bee Heo. Showcased alongside the couple's works are 17 other selected artists from Ceramic House, a studio founded by the couple more than 30 years ago.

------

Since 2011, Tougei has been an important platform to promote ceramic art and the traditional gas-firing technique that has been skilfully mastered by Master Potter Lim Kim Hui. Tougei has become synonymous with the showcasing of high quality gas-fired ceramic works made in Singapore.

A group of 17 emerging ceramists will join Master Potters Lim Kim Hui and Shee Bee Heo this year at Tougei 2022. Hailing from different backgrounds and industries, they come together to push creative boundaries and make magic with clay. Entitled 'Ignis/新薪之火', the 4th Edition of Tougei promises to be an inspiring and thoughtful visual feast for ceramics enthusiasts and collectors.

The Works
All works are handmade by the participating artists from Ceramic House. Most of the works are gas-reduction fired up to 1,310oC by Mr Lim, who has to date conducted more than 2,000 gas firings over the years.

Ceramic Artists
Besides Master Potters Lim and Shee, 17 other artists, such as corporate executive-turned-full-time potter John Leong, doctor-by-day Mok Yee Hui, photographer Keneth Tan and airline pilot Chan Hong Yaw, will display a selection of their most recent creations at the exhibition. Expect to see more than 150 pieces of awe-inspiring ceramic works from a diverse group of artists.

The participating artists in Tougei 2022 include: Lim Kim Hui, Shee Bee Heo, Kim Joo Goh, John Leong, Keneth Tan, Aparna Guruprasad, Bernice Lim, Rebecca Lui, Cheyenne Yu, Mok Yee Hui, Chan Hong Yaw, Tan Mei Ying, Dora Lee, Wong Sindy, Jow Lee Ying, Hairol Md Hossain, Lam Hui Zhen, Vivien Chan and Christine Fan.

Special Demonstration
On the second day of the exhibition (10/9/2022 at 3pm), Ms Angela Kek, a First Grade Somu teacher from the Sogetsu school of Ikebana, will conduct an ikebana demonstration using ceramic vases made by Mr Lim.

Youth Collaboration
Artists from Tougei 2022 collaborated with youths from SHINE Children and Youth Services for this exhibition. Pottery classes were conducted for youths from SHINE to have a hands-on experience at expressing themselves through meaningful clay-making. Their works will be showcased at the exhibition and some of them will be for sale. All proceeds from their sale will be donated to SHINE.

Supporting Charity
The Tougei committee believes in giving back to the community. 10% of the proceeds from Tougei 2022 will be donated to Extraordinary People Limited (EPL), an Institution of a Public Character (IPC). EPL is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to support special needs children and individuals through community-supported initiatives.
