About the Artists: Impromptu Meetings

Cheryl Tan Yun Xin is a bilingual actor and theatre maker based in Singapore. She graduated from the BA Acting Course in LASALLE College of the Arts in 2018. She is also proud to be a part of ATTEMPTS, a participatory theatre collective and well as a local collective, Impromptu Meetings. As a theatre maker, her interests lie in experimenting with immersive and interactive theatre, as well as making theatre as accessible as possible to the public. She recently presented two projects as part of the digital online fringe festival STRIKE! festival (Hey I Moved! and Broken Telegram) during April 2021.

Miriam Cheong is an actor, writer, singer and maybe dancer if you squint hard enough and ignore her sickled feet. Currently exploring autobiographical theatre, her work as a writer-performer includes Wild Rice's The Other F Word and Impromptu Meeting's Bin Hai: Xiao Ming by the Bay, staged as part of Esplanade's Foreword Festival. Her other acting credits include Grandma and Ensemble in Musical Theatre Limited's Lim Boon Keng: The Musical and Poh Suan The Second Breakfast Company's The Moon is Less Bright. She dedicates The Staff Room to her favourite 'O' Level biology teacher, her mother Mrs Catherine Cheong.

Adeeb Fazah is a founding member of Impromptu Meetings, whose digital performance of The Late Night Show with Xiao Ming (2021) was commissioned for a live staging in the Esplanade Concourse as part of Foreword. Adeeb is also the Artistic Director of The Second Breakfast Company, directing works like Family, The Singapore Trilogy and Performing Malay Sketches. Adeeb has worked with Bhumi Collective and Adeeb & Shai on dead was the body till i taught it how to move and Last of Their Generation, which was presented at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2017. As artist-in-residence of Gateway Theatre, Adeeb directed Heather. Most recently, Adeeb was part of the organising committee of STRIKE! Digital Festival. He also works with young people as a freelance educator for drama-in-curriculum and CCA programmes in various secondary schools and polytechnics.
