Synopsis:

Is your idea of poetry limited to verses merely to be read out loud? Broaden your mind in this lecture by one of the world's pre-eminent critics of contemporary poetics. Marjorie Perloff, heralded as the godmother of postmodern and avant-garde poetry, will open your eyes to some of the most exciting poetic ventures in recent years. These range from Susan Howe's Tom Tit Tot and Christian Bok's The Xenotext to Kenneth Goldsmith's Soliloquy and Christian Marclay's The Clock, an art piece that functions as a time-keeper.

Marjorie Perloff is Sadie D. Patek Professor Emerita of Humanities at Stanford University and Florence R. Scott Professor Emerita of English at the University of Southern California. She is the author of many books on twentieth and twenty-first century poetry and poetics, most recently Unoriginal Genius: Poetry by Other Means in the New Century and Edge of Irony: Modernism in the Shadow of the Habsburg Empire. She has also published a memoir, The Vienna Paradox, and a collection of her interviews and essays, Poetics In A New Key.
