Synopsis:

American contemporary artist, Paul Rousso once said, "anything is possible with a dollar and a dream". In his inaugural exhibition, Power of Paper opening in Singapore's Ode to Art gallery this September, his adage proves true with the literal manifestations of life-sized paper currencies.

Just a few years ago, cash remained king in most parts of the world - consumers preferred to spend with their cash as paper bills continued to dominate the world. Now, as we move towards an increasingly paperless and digitalised world, Paul Rousso remains committed to preserving cash in his installations. It all started with him crumbling paper till he successfully elevated pop art to another level as he created hyper-realistic, hyper-sized three-dimensional sculptures. His works comprise life-sized candy wrappers, newspapers, comics, and of course, his U.S currency and international currency series.

Rousso has successfully immortalised the world of print before they are fully digitalised. Today, his works are collected by the likes of Floyd Mayweather, DJ Zedd and Rihanna. His works are iconic due to the open-ended questions they raise and the multi-faceted interpretations that are unique to each viewer.
