Synopsis:

Dancer and performance artist Kai will be staging a performance set in a typical life drawing class. No longer the 'silent model', Kai speaks directly to the students. In a gesture to reveal that is both physical and verbal, she becomes the nude model subject to our artistic interpretations and answers a series of questions – that are innocent, quirky, suggestive or taboo – she experienced during her career as a life model. Undertaking the roles of the 'artist' and 'art object', Kai takes over the life drawing space to make us see the bare facts from a nude model's perspective.

Eng Kai Er makes contemporary performance and works across dance, theatre, and other formats. Her work is physical, intimate, and fun. She has performed in Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, China, Sweden, France, and Belgium. When she is not making performances, she dances contact improvisation, jumps on trampolines, or holds poses at life drawing sessions. Being a life model has been a significant part-time job / hobby / passion for her, and she is excited to finally be making a performance based on her experiences of life modelling.

Organised and curated by Yang Yilin as part of Art History Capstone -"Long Live the Nude!": the production of the nude in twentieth century Singapore, supported by Arts Space Committee as part of Yale NUS College Arts & Humanites Capstone Festival
