Synopsis:

Be transported to a passion-filled world of heroic adventure and romance within a masterpiece of world literature. Listen to tales of the magical Simorgh with her miraculous feathers, of the deeply loved, yet reluctant hero, Rustam and his super-sized horse Rahksh. Experience the energy and humour of this sweeping, legendary history of Iran.

The Shahnameh was written by the Iranian poet, Ferdowsi over 1,000 years ago and stretches from the beginning of time to the 7th century fall of the Persian Empire. It touches on concerns that continue to plague and intrigue us today such as the meaning of truth, integrity and loyalty; with stories that move from the otherworldly, to the most basic human dramas and desires.

Dazzling performance storyteller, Xanthe Gresham-Knight brings to life a selection of stories.

Originally commissioned by The British Museum with support from the Magic of Persia, London, The Smithsonian and the Chester Beatty Library, Dublin. The Shahnameh was developed for national touring by Adverse Camber. Performed with thanks to Arash Moradi, Crick Crack Club (London), Iran Heritage, Asia House, and the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge.

Presented by The Storytelling Centre Limited and The Arts House

With the support of National Arts Council Singapore
