Synopsis:

If you're an avid young musician keen to learn more from experienced musicians/producers from the industry, the Noise Music Mentorship (NMM) might be the programme for you! You qualify for the programme if you don't belong to a record label. Musicians who have not played at major festival platforms such as Baybeats, Mosaic Music Festival, etc. will also be given priority consideration.

About the Programme
Co-programmed by Thunder Rock School, the Noise Music Mentorship (NMM) offers you the opportunity to develop confidence and work alongside music industry gurus. Gain valuable tips on improving performance techniques and get a chance to perform at various Noise gigs. The top musicians of the year will also be given the Noise Singapore Award (NSA), which comes with a grant of up to $5,000 for recipients to carry out an arts project.

In addition to an esteemed group of mentors, there will also be two advisors, Eddino Abdul Hadi (Media Advisor) and Leonard Soosay (Production Advisor), who will specialise in developing participants' knowledge in Public Relations and Productions.

Application
Each applicant is required to submit up to 5 pieces of original music and include links to your website and social media pages. You will also need to share a brief statement about yourself, what you wish to learn from the programme, and describe a creative project you wish to realise.

Selection Process
Shortlisted musicians will be invited to attend an audition and perform a set consisting of two original songs within a 15-minute slot (inclusive of set-up time). Musicians will be evaluated based on content, music direction and performance.

Mentorship sessions: Jul 2017 – Dec 2017
Band Camp: 9/10 Sep 2017
Feedback Sessions: Nov 2017
NMM Concert: Dec 2017

Successful Applicants Must
- Accept the mentors assigned to them;
- Take the initiative to seek learning opportunities from their mentor and commit to attend 10 mentorship sessions, to be arranged between mentor and mentees between Jul 2017 to Dec 2017;
- Be available to attend a band camp organised for mentees in Sep 2017;
- Prepare and perform two original songs at a closed-door Feedback Session to the panel of mentors in Nov 2017;
- Commit to perform at the NMM Concert in Dec 2017.

Clement Yang

Clement has been in the music industry for more than a decade. He started off playing in many live music venues, including Hood Bar and Café, Hard Rock Café, Wala Wala and Harry's and has gone on to perform at events and functions like the Singapore F1 Race, Esplanade New Year's Countdown, SPH E Awards etc. Besides playing music live, Clement now also produces music. He has composed, arranged, mixed and produced for clients like Changi Airport Group, Mediacorp as well as Artists like Ruby Chen, Pinholes, Nen and more. The versatile musician has performed with renowned Mando-pop artists like David Tao, Jaycee Chan, Kit Chan and he was also involved in the original soundtrack for local movies like 881 and 12 Lotus.

Inch Chua

Born and raised in a colourful family of theatre pedigree in Singapore, iNCH was always destined for the performing arts. She became the front woman of indie rock band Allura at age 16 and gained the attention of music critics with the release of her debut solo EP, The Bedroom, in 2009. She was invited to SXSW Music Festival in 2010 and her first full-length album Wallflower was released in the same year to a sold-out launch show; crystallising the path for her solo career.

Jack Ho

Jack is one half of the popular duo, Jack and Rai. Starting out as a cover band, their unique interpretations of popular hits made them mainstays in live music venues such as Wala Wala and Balaclava. In 2008, the duo tapped into their songwriting skills to release an album In Stores Now!', which spurned popular songs such as The Fa La La Song and Fiona. The experienced music duo also opened for acts like Daughtry, Lifehouse, Rachel Yamagata and Ryan Cabrera.

Kevin Foo

Kevin is a bonafide veteran of the Singapore music industry, as a producer and co-founder of Beep Studios, a co-founder of the music agency Foundation Music and a co-founder and head of Artist Development at Umami Records. His experience in music production (Linying, Charlieblouse, Nathan Hartono, The SteveMcQueens, Serenaide, Alarice etc) in artist management (Linying, The Steve McQueens and Charlie Lim) and in artist development and record label work (Evanturetime, Linying, SMQ, Oriental Cravings, Campfire, Phoria, Villes etc) puts him in a unique position to mentor, develop and impart to the next wave of emerging Singapore-based music talents.

Martin Kong

Martin James Kong is the drummer for post-hardcore band Caracal and a Drum Instructor at Thunder Rock School. His band Caracal, has released 2 albums and an EP and has performed for notable festivals like Baybeats (SG), Summersonic (Tokyo), MIDI Festival (Beijing), Spring Scream Festival (Taiwan) and more. They have also toured USA, Canada, Japan, China and Southeast Asia, and have opened for acts like Anberlin, Funeral For a Friend, Underoath and The Used. Martin shares his passion for music at Thunder Rock School and is a recording engineer at Snakeweed Studios.

Sara Wee

Sara Wee is a sought-after vocalist and guitarist with 14 years of experience performing at established local spots. A graduate from Lasalle College of the Arts with a Diploma in Music Technology and Degree in Jazz Vocals, Sara is the Vocal Director for iTheatre and a part-time lecturer at her alma mater. She has been involved in vocal training/choirs in local schools, was a guest vocal coach on Singapore Idol 3 and is currently also a vocal coach at Timbre Music Academy. Sara performs three times a week with her band, 53A, at Timbre Substation and Timbre+.

Simon Yong

Simon Yong is a Singaporean guitarist, singer, songwriter, sessionist, and producer known for his work with progressive rock band Zero Sequence and most recently with his debut solo instrumental album Alien Stole My Whiskey (2013). From national TV to numerous radio shows, the ESP Guitars and Audio-Technica endorsee has also performed in Malaysia, Japan, Australia, France, and USA. An influential figure in the music industry, this talented multi-instrumentalist who first started learning the organ at aged 4, is also a music educator, and has been conducting clinics and masterclasses for more than 10 years.

Vanessa Fernandez

Vanessa Fernandez is a singer and advocate for music made in Singapore. She released several albums with the now defunct hip-hop groups, Urban Xchange and Parking Lot Pimp and is now more popularly known by her moniker, Vandetta. Following a stint as a radio DJ at 987FM, she became part of the audio-visual collective, Syndicate, performing with veteran hip-hop producer/DJ, Kiat, at the opening day of the infamous Gilles Peterson Worldwide Festival 2011 in Sete, France. More recently, Vanessa went back to radio at Lush99.5fm, eventually become Programme Director and re-branding the station to play indie/electronica with a focus on local art and contemporary music. Music and media are her passions with her personal mission being to inspire others to use their powers for good through the medium of art and culture.

Eddino Abdul Hadi is a music journalist for The Straits Times and sits on the board of directors at the Composers and Authors Society of Singapore (COMPASS). Prior to this, he was one of the main writers for BigO, Singapore's only independent music magazine. Eddino is also a musician, songwriter and founder of popular homegrown band Force Vomit. He is also a member of several other homegrown acts and the co-founder of independent music collective, record label and music studio The End Of Recordings.

Leonard Soosay is the Director of Singapore-based recording and mixing studio, Snakeweed Studios, and arguably one of Singapore's most famous and well-known independent Music Producers and Sound Engineers. He has produced and recorded over 500 local artists since 1997 such as Electrico, The Great Spy Experiment, Inch Chua and Caracal. He is also the co-founder of Thunder Rock School, an institution that is committed to the preservation and cultivation of Singapore's musical heritage and inspiring and educating the next generation of musicians.
