Celebrating our 7th year of music-making since our inception in 2010, EVOKX presents its annual concert series Evocation 2017: The Art of Giving under the guidance and direction of our Choral Director, Mr. Terrence Toh. As an extension of our mission to evoke the spirit of giving among youths in Singapore, this year's concert will feature performances by Anglican High School, CHIJ Katong Convent, Nanyang Junior College and Pioneer Junior College together with their alumni, The Pioneer Voices.
The concert will present prominent choral works of acclaimed Romantic composer Sir Edward Elgar such as The Snow & As Torrents in Summer. On top of that, a diverse selection of contemporary compositions will be performed by EVOKX and the various school choirs. The multicultural spread includes Mence's Kalejs Kala Debesis, Matsushita's Ari No Natsu, Paminutuan's De Profundis and López-Gavilán's El Guayaboso.
Our chosen beneficiary for 2017 is The Red Pencil (Singapore), a registered charity reaching out to a wide spectrum of beneficiaries including children, adults and their families as well as the elderly. They offer both creative and clinical Arts Therapy services to 55 organisations in Singapore: hospitals, family centres, homes, shelters and schools, with a target audience of those from the low-income families. They aim to support the emotional needs of people who have experienced traumatic situations by severe injuries, major surgeries or cancer treatments and those with mental wellness concerns such as depression, anxiety and psychosis. We are confident that a little support will go a long way in making a difference to the art therapy projects advocated.
