Synopsis:

What to eat? Not just to feed the body but also fill the soul?

Rice is the soul and life force of Asia. The labour of rice cultivation formed close communities and human kinships. The Ancient Asians' awe of the land bred mythical stories with fantastical deities that guard the crops and protect the earth. The sharing of food prepared with love and care reinforces ideals of kinship and human affinity through the formation of collective memories.

But now, what we eat, when we eat, and how we eat have detrimental consequences that could alter entire civilizations and humanity. Urban dwellers who indulge in over-consumption and food wastage remain oblivious to the hunger and famine elsewhere. The threat of food security looms imminent on us all.

The performance offers a spread of dance, live music, soundscape, film, and set design to contemplate on the issues of food source and consumption in our modern times.

Future Feed reflects the artists' premonition of depleting arable lands that would ultimately lead to the loss of collective memories and broken human connections. Future Feed invites you to hear the laments of empty rice bowls and feel the sodden dance steps at the shadow of the paddy fields.
