Synopsis:

Based on the festival theme of 'sayang', the exhibition features images by Associated Press photographer Wong Maye-E, paired with over 20 texts from Singapore writers –poems to plays, from short stories to novels.

Upon reading the works, Wong was immediately drawn to the texts in their various interpretations of the word 'sayang' and was reminded of some of the photographs she has taken for her Instagram account. Beyond just a visual diary, Instagram allowed her to capture the various degrees of love, passion and loss just like the word 'sayang' which has taken on many meanings in this Malay Archipelago.

Choosing to adhere to Instagram's classic square format, Wong has selected over 20 images inspired by extracts from Singapore writers like Balli Jaswal Kau, O Thiam Chin and Latha as well as Singapore literary pioneers like Dan Ying (Lew Poo Chan), Suratman Markasan and Rex Shelly.

An artist and curator tour of the exhibition will be held on Sat, 5 Nov from 4pm to 5pm. Please meet at the box office 15 minutes prior.
